Senior Advocate AM Amin Uddin appointed attorney general

AM Amin Uddin, a senior advocate at the Supreme Court and also president of the Supreme Court Bar Association, has been appointed attorney general of Bangladesh.

"President Md Abdul Hamid has appointed Advocate AM Amin Uddin as the new attorney general of Bangladesh. He will fill the vacancy created due to the death of longest serving Attorney General Mahbubey Alam," Law Minister Anisul Huq told The Daily Star.

Mahbubey Alam passed away on September 27.

AM Amin Uddin, who has been appointed as the 14th top law officer of the state, told The Daily Star that he will take forward the work of the government and former attorney general Mahbubey Alam for establishing rule of law and justice in the country.

"I will work to ensure justice for people of the country," he said.

AM Amin Uddin was born at Kulaura in Moulvibazar in 1963. The eminent lawyer has completed his masters and law degrees from Dhaka University.

He was appointed a deputy attorney general in 2000 and discharged the duties until the then Awami League government was in the state office till October 2001. Amin Uddin was elected president of the Supreme Court Bar Association for two consecutive times.

Amin Uddin was enrolled as a lawyer for lower court in 1987 and become a lawyer for the HC division in 1989. In 2003, he was enrolled as lawyer of Appellate Division of Supreme Court. He became a senior lawyer in 2015 and was elected as the secretary of the SCBA in 2006.

While taking to this correspondent, Amin Uddin said that there is no legal bar for discharging duty as the president of SCBA while holding the office of attorney general.
