My Aim in Life to Become An Engineer - My Ambition


My aim in life: Every man has an aim in life. A man without an aim is like a ship without a rudder. A fixed aim helps a man in life.

Many men have many minds. Some want to earn money, some want to earn fame, some want to acquire knowledge, some want to be a teacher, some want be a doctor and so on. It depends on the individual taste.

Like others, I have an aim in life. My aim in life is to be a Engineer. For this, I have to study hard so that I may pass the S.S.C examination with a great result (G.P.A: A++). After passing the S.S.C examination from science group with A++, I shall get myself admitted into H.S.C in the same group. After passing H.S.C examination, I shall get myself admitted into the B.Sc Engg. Degree course at RUET. After successfully passing the B.Sc Engg. degree, I shall get myself motivated in IT Telecom Industry. Right now I have been working a leading bank named as NCC Bank Ltd. Bangladesh. Though I have also a student of M.Sc final year student at Jahangirnagar University under dept. of CSE.


Engineering is a very broad field. There are so many types of engineering, that there is bound to be one you find interest in. Since science and technology are constantly expanding, there will always be new problems to solve-you'll rarely be bored. Unlike other jobs that require you to do the same thing over and over, the work of engineers greatly varies.

In engineering, you will find yourself constantly finding new ways to solve problems. If you truly want to be an engineer, the challenges you will face will just make things more interesting. Overcoming obstacles will help sharpen your mind, helping you deal with problems not only in engineering but in life as well.

In facing challenges, you will be encouraged to "think outside of the box" and explore new possibilities. This need to creativity makes engineering even more exciting.

There is indeed great strength in diversity. Engineering requires many different perspectives to find a single workable solution. You have the power to show the world what you can do. Don't always follow the crowd-show people that you are unique but just as capable as anyone else.

So, This is in short,my aim in life. I think my choice is the best one. I shall be a happy man if I can fulfill my aim in life.

A Journey by Train

Journey is always fascinating. It charms our mind and makes us happy. Journey is a relief in our monotonous everyday life. After a journey we feel relaxed and fresh. It also fills our heart with peace. During the last winter vacation, I got an opportunity to make a journey by train with my family members from Dhaka to Rajshahi. My uncle lives there. We generally go to Rajshahi by bus. But that time my father decided to go there by train.

It was 11 December, 2010. We got up early in the morning, took preparation and got on two rickshaws. It took almost half an hour to reach Kamlapur Railway Station.


My father bought four tickets from the ticket counter for the 'Ekota Express'. We got into the train and found our seats beside the window. Within a few minutes, the guard blew his whistle and waved his green flag and the train started to move slowly at about 7.30 am. The train left the platform and gradually it attained speed. The window was opened and I could see outside easily. The train was moving at a great speed and there was a great jerking. The village women were seen carrying pitchers of water, farmers were seen working in the fields and young boys and girls were shivering in cold. All these left a permanent impression on my mind.

As it was an intercity train, it did not stop in many stations and was not very crowded. When it was crossing small stations, it seemed speedier. There were a few hawkers selling boiled eggs, chanachur and betel leaf and fried ground nut. We had our breakfast with bread and boiled eggs. Later an attendant was ordered to bring tea.

The time passed by. During the journey, my father showed me the Indian boarder at hilly station. I was enjoying everything around me. In this way we passed ten hours and at last reached Raajshahi. My uncle was waiting for us with a car. After coming out of the station, it took only ten minutes to reach my uncle’s house. We were greeted cordially.

Thus the train journey came to an end. Though I made the journey last year, the memory of it is ever fresh in my mind.

A good mother can produce a good citizen. In order to have good citizens, female education is a must.

Female education is not a new thing in our country. Islam has encouraged education and training to women folk. The prophet of Islam has made education compulsory for both men and women. Once Napoleon said. "Give me a good mother and I will give you a good citizen". A good mother obviously means an educated mother. So it needs no telling the importance of female education.


No nation can make real progress keeping a full half of its population in the dark. Without the uplift of women, the progress of the nation is not at all possible. Again without education women can not be elevated. So all out education should be imparted to the women folk so that they may come forward and work hand in hand with men in all development programmes.

Mothers women play an important part in moulding the character of their children. There is a saying in English that the hands that rocks the cradle rules the world. So every woman is a potential mother.

A mother exercises an undeniable influence in the formation of children’s character and in shaping their future destiny. Lives of many great men of the world show that their greatness was due to their mother’s influence. The things that they learn at home take a firm root in them . And it goes without saying that this learning they get mostly from their mother as they live under her direct supervision and constant care. If a mother fails to bring up her children properly, the mother is held responsible for this failure, not the child. So it can be said that it is a mother who plays a vital role in forming the character and deciding the future of her children. From this point of view an educated mother is an asset and it is more necessary to educated women folk.

Apart from these factors, a teacher can influence others and contribute a lot to the advancement of his motherland. Considering all these things, I have come to the conclusion to take the profession of teaching.


A teacher is in a better position to serve the humanity. He is the architect of a nation. Without education no nation can make progress. It is the teachers who make the nation educated. In this way, I shall be able to serve the illiterate humanity by giving them the light of education.

Teachers are held in high esteem in society. He is enlightened and honest as a result of which he is followed by others. By dint of his wisdom and honesty, he can easily influence others. Socrates and Plato exerted a great influence on Greek society.

Man cannot live by bread alone. He is in need of mental food. Teachers have to struggle to keep his body and soul together. But at the same time, they are the respected souls. Many wealthy persons have gone into oblivion. But many educated teachers are still remembered. So, this dignified profession will give me satisfaction and enjoyment in the days to come.

So we see that some people travel for pleasure, some for education and knowledge and some others for business. Travelling, no doubt, enriches our knowledge and broadens our outlook.

In ancient time, travelling was difficult and hazardous. It was full of perils and hurdles. Then travelers had to suffer a lot for want of conveyance and communication facilities. Travelers like Ibne Batuta, Hiuen Tsang, Marco Polo had to face serious troubles in their journeys. But their indomitable spirit and unquenchable thirst for knowledge could not resist them from travelling. We find this spirit in the legendary character Ulysses of poet Alfred Tennyson uttering his unquenchable thirst for knowledge and indomitable spirit for travelling : I cannot rest from travel, I will drink life to the lees.

Composition: The Game I Like Most

Games and sports are helpful for sound health. I often play cricket, football, table tennis, etc. Among them football is the most favourite to me. It thrills not only the players but also the spectators. So, it is my most favourite game.

Football is an outdoor game. It is a very exciting game of 90 minutes. There is a break after 45 minutes. It is not a costly and time-killing game. The game of football needs a field and two bar posts. Cricket, table tennis, lawn tennis are very costly and time-killing games. In this respect,
football is more exciting and enjoyable.

The game of football requires a field of about 120 yards long and 80 yards wide and two goal posts at each end. Two teams play this game. And each consists of eleven players. Football is played by kicking the ball with foot. During the game, only the goalkeeper can touch the ball with hands. The players can also head the ball.


The referee with two linesmen conducts the game. Everything is supervised by the referee when the
game is played. Any of the player who does anything against the rule of football is given penalty. In this game, the team which scores more goals wins the match.

Football is a game of great interest and enjoyment. It makes the limbs or the body orderly and helps proper blood circulation. It keeps the players fit and active. It also teaches the qualities of leadership. It makes players prompt, cautious, strong and hardy. It teaches us discipline, team spirit and unity.

Sometimes the players may be injured or wounded. There remain sufficient arrangements for first aid in the field. Football is my favourite game because it has charm and excitement. It is an interesting and exciting game. It makes me cheerful when I watch it. Really, it is the game which I like most.

FREEDOM OF PRESS

Freedom of press means the freedom for publication of news In the newspapers and journals. When the reporters, journalists, editors, correspondents of a newspaper can publish their news and views for the interest of the people without fear or any threat from the govt or any person or any quarter, we can say that there Is freedom of press.

Freedom of press is very essential to build a democratic society and a democratic country. A real democratic society always ensures the freedom of press. A regimented society does not allow freedom of press. Freedom of press is necessary to build a corruption free, accountable and, transparent society. To establish harmony and peace, to ensure sustainable development, to protect the rights of people, to ensure social justice, to remove oppression, freedom of press can play a very vital role. Press is called the fourth pillar of the state.


But the autocratic rulers, powerful business magnates, Irresponsible bureaucrats, greedy capitalists are not ready to allow the freedom of press. They think that if the journalists publish the news of their uninterrupted exploitation and misdeeds, people will be conscious and raise their voice against them.


When the freedom of press is guaranteed by the constitutional law, an editor or a journalist or a reporter can express the true news fearlessly. But a journalist should never publish the baseless, false or fabricated news which may harm the sovereignty or security of a country or affect the interest and right of the people. The journalists are committed only to the people in general and to the country in particular. They are not accountable to any person, any organization, or any vested interest group or even any autocratic rulers.

When a citizen of a country becomes the victim of oppression, tyranny, exploitation or injustice, the concerned persons of the newspapers and journals may come forward to save him and ventilate all the information through newspapers In favour of these helpless victims. When the journalists enjoy freedom of press they can organise and mobilise public opinion against misuse of power of the rulers and misdeeds of administration. Thus only freedom of press can ensure a free and a real democratic society.

So it is needless to say that to build a real democratic state, a happy, prosperous, peaceful and harmonious society freedom of press Is a must.

INDUSTRIALIZATION IN BANGLADESH

Bangladesh as an underdeveloped country is industrially backward. There are many reasons behind the backwardness. Among them, lack of positive and favourable industrial policy,small savings, want of capital, lack of infrastructural facilities, lack of technological know-how, unskilled manpower, political instability and lack of proper govt policy are the main causes of backwardness in the way of industrialization. Despite all these hurdles, small scale and medium scale industries have flourished. But the speed of flourishment is very slow.

Bangladesh is mainly an agricultural country. Majority of the people depend on agriculture and live in the village. So, setting up large scale industries is very difficult here.


In spite of setting up ‘Board of investment’ and Privatization Board, foreign investors are not so much interested in investing money. Even our local investors show little Interest in this connection. The main reasons for their unwillingness are the political instability, social insecurity and lack of proper communication system. The Investors desire for congenial atmosphere for Investment where he can be sure of a good return for his investment. But political unrest puts hindrances and causes uncertainty for a good return. Moreover, generation and supply of electricity is very inadequate. But It is a vital element for increasing the Industrial production.

In the present world, there is a keen competition among the countries to provide various facilities and support by creating congenial atmosphere for investment. If we can not keep pace with other countries in question of providing favourable facilities and support by creating congenial atmosphere, our country will not be industrialized upto our expectation. Many countries like Malayasla, Thailand, Taiwan, Korea have already achieved tremendous success In industrialization faster than ours. We are repeatedly lagging behind in industrialization.

But we have, to some extent, become successful in small, medium and agro-based industries. Within twenty years, garments and textile industries have flourished substantially. Millions of people have got opportunities for employment in garments and textile sector. We are earning majority of our foreign exchange through this sector. Besides, ceramic, Cement and fertilizer industries have also developed rapidly. But all these industries have flourished with the initiative of private entrepreneurs. On the other hand, public owned industries have beer closed down one by one to meet up continuous losses. Specially large scale industries like paper mills, jute mills, cotton mills and sugar mills have to face such a consequence. Many workers and employees have lost their jobs.

So with the experience of the past, we have to take initiatives to set up small and medium industries. We should also encourage agro-based industries for rapid industrialization. Besides, we should ensure political stability, social security development of communication facilities, formulation of favourable and positive industrial policy to accelerate industrialization in Bangladesh and to attract the foreign investors as well.

GLOBALIZATION

Globalization has become a buzz word in the new era of international relations. It is virtually a process of expanding trade and commerce all over the world, It aims at creating a border less and open market. It aims at removing all the barriers of entering goods and products from industrially developed countries. But we can see that it has a far reaching impact on many aspects of life. With the development of high technological communication media and rapid transportation facilities, the whole world has come closer and nearer. We can now learn in an instant what is happening in the farthest corner of the world and travel in any country within the shortest possible time. Countries of the world are now like families in a village which is known as ‘Global Village’. If one country is in distress, others can immediately come to its help.

Capitalism developed in Europe as a result of their conservative policy. But now to ensure world wide market for the capitalist countries idea of global trade has become widespread. It is creating more opportunities for the developed and capitalist countries rather than under developed or developing ones. In the name of help and co-operation, capitalist countries are exploiting the cheap labour available in poorer countries. The global strategy of development promises greater employment opportunities to the people of poor countries but at the same time it also promises high returns to the capitalists.

Actually it paves the way to lasting poverty so that the capitalists can continue to use cheap labour of the poor countries. The exploited and impoverished workers of the developing countries can not be able to compete with powerful capitalism. As a result, the gap between the
rich and the poor countries is ever widening.


Although globalization is mainly related with business, trade and international relations, its impact is being felt in other aspects of life too. Satellite television channels and the internet are bringing all sorts of different customs and behaviour into our drawing room. Under the
influence of globalization, global cultures are steadily getting integrated with local culture’s. Different cultures are constantly interacting. As an independent nation, we have our own traditional social values, beliefs and attitudes. But in the globalizing process, many social customs and beliefs are intruding on our traditional values, beliefs and cultures. This is playing a great and profound influence on our young generation in particular.

The intrusion of foreign culture is seen by many people as an assault or aggression to our national cultural identity. The industrially developed countries of the world are thus having benefits from globalization for selling their products in the international market. At the same time, they are purchasing workers from the underdeveloped countries at cheaper rate. The developed’ countries are controlling the international trade and business in the name of globalization.

The Empowerment of Women in Bangladesh

Empowerment means the process by which any man or woman is given power or authority to participate In earning money and decision making. Empowerment of women is thus a process through which women in general and poor women in particular get opportunity to Join the workforce and contribute to family income and take part in decision making.

In Bangladesh. women have always worked within the household but this is not commonly counted as work. It is unfortunate that women’s role in agricultural societies have not been recognized either. Women in Bangladesh are the worst sufferers.


As Bangladeshi women have no economic freedom, they can not enjoy life and power in decision making in their family as well as in society. Our social outlook and religious beliefs are also barriers to the empowerment of our women. Women in our society have always been considered subservient to men. Most of the families are dominated by men. The social prejudices and customs always tend to degrade the position of women. When a girl is born in a poor family, it is not regarded as a happy event. The parents of the girl think that she has come to add to their miseries. They seldom think of sending her to school.

Women, are no less important than men in our society. They constitute half of our total population. So it is undeniable that they too should enjoy equal rights and perform duties as men in our country. Otherwise, all our efforts for development will not be fruitful and effective. All developed countries have been successful by ensuring the participation of women in their development process.

So we. should educate our women and give them opportunities for employment. The women are now coming out of home and joining job markets. They are proving their skills and efficiency with their work.

Today women are playing a significant role in all spheres of life. Education facilities for the women are being provided and extended. Women are getting free education upto higher secondary level. Thus the process of empowerment of women is going on. The government is also taking many projects to make the women self reliant. Moreover, our govt has set up a separate ministry called "Ministry for social welfare and women affairs". An act to prevent ‘repression of women’ has been passed. If we want to keep pace with the challenge of the 21st century, both men and women should come forward to work together. People from all walks of life should also take initiative to extend their whole hearted co-operation with a view to ensuring the empowerment of women in Bangladesh.

SAARC

The present age is an age of co-operation and developing international relations. With the process of globalisation, countries of the world are coming closer to one another and forming different organisations or alliances for mutual benefit. Different nations of a particular global region unite in a common platform, and share and co-operate among themselves, discuss their problems arid work together to achieve their goals. SAARC is such an organisation.

SAARC is an acronym which stands for South Asian Association for Regional Co-operation. As it is clear from the name, SAARC is a regional platform for cooperation, SAARC member countries are Bangladesh, india, Pakistan, Nepal, Maldives, Bhutan and Sri Lanka. Recently Afganistan has been recognised as the eighth member of SAARC nations. Besides, UN, OIC, EU, China have got the observer status of SAARC.

SAARC is the brain child of Late President of angladesh, Ziaur Rahman. In order to form a coo perative family of Bangladesh’s neighbouring countries, he toured the seven countries In 1980 and tried to convince the head of the states to come under the same umbrella where
they would work to solve their common problems. His dreams finally came into being in 1981 when the foreign secretaries of seven countries met in Colombo to decide the fields of coo peration. Agriculture, rural developments, telecommunication, weather, health and family planning, poverty alleviation and scientific development were set as the fields of co-operation. But it was not until 1985 that SAARC started its marching steps ahead.

SAARC sumnijt Is the regular meeting of the heads of the SAARC states. The first summit of SAARC was held in Dhaka on December 7, 1985. In the concluding session of the conference on December 8. the heads of the states of SAARC countries adopted a three point declaration called the historic Dhalca declaration. The next summit was held in Bangalore at the end of the year 1986. In this summit, It was decided that a permanent secretariat, would be set up In Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal. The subsequent summits were held by rotation In the SAARC states excluding Bhutan. Bangladesh hosted second SAARC summit in 1993, and the third In 2005. In the Dhaka summit in 2005, Afganistan has been given the membership status and Japan and China have been given the status of observer status.

SAARC countries have started working to establish a Free Trade Area (Fl’A) which will increase their internal trade and lessen the trade gap of some states considerably. They have also agreed to establish a SAARC university in India, a food Bank in Pakistan and also an Energy
reserve. They have also signed a preferential agreement on social charter which includes issues like Poverty Reduction, Education, Health, Women Empowerment, Child Rights etc.

Whatever the gains of SA.ARC so far may be It is the oily platform where the state leaders meet and discuss Issues. SAARC Is an oIganisatlon of about 150 crore of people. It is their hope and aspiration. it is upto the SAARC leaders to work together for developed, peaceful and prosperous South Asia. Bangladesh as a pioneering nation of SAARC, should play the leading role in this regard. But other countries must Join hands, otherwise the goals of SAARC will remain far-off.

RURAL DEVELOPMENT

Rural development means the development of the villages. It also means the development of the Condition of our villagers by providing facilities for communication, education and medical care, health and sanitation, The facilities to develop agriculture, cottage Industries, handicrafts should also be ensured for the rural development. After Liberation War, massive programmes for rural development have been undertaken.

During pre-liberation period our villages were totally neglected. But Immediately after our liberation massive development programmes in all sectors have been undertaken. Many roads from upazilla to the union parishad have been constructed to link the villages with upazilla. Roads to connect the district head quarters with upazlllas have also been constructed. As a result, people can easily move to district and upazilla and carry their agricultural products easily.

Many development pragrammes for the development of agriculture have been taken up Bangladesh Agriculture Development Corporation (BADC) supplies good seeds, fertilizers. powertillers, deep tubewells, shallow tubewells and other modern tools to adopt scientific method of cultivation on short term credit and on hire basis at low interest. Canal digging programme is also undertaken for ensuring water supply for irrigation purpose.


Upazilla health complexes have been set up to provide medical facilities to the rural people. People are getting primary health care from these places Many N.G.Os are making arrangement to train up the rural people on hatchery, poultry, livestock, nurseries etc.

Bangladesh Small and Cottage industries Corporation is arranging training for the rural people who are developing their skills in cottage industries and handicrafts. Their products are now very popular and in great demand at home and abroad. By exporting their products, we are earning a lot of foreign exchange which is ultimately helping to improve the condition of rural people.

Manv schools and colleges have been set up in rural areas very recently. The government has undertaken programmes to provide scholarship to the girl students up to higher secondary level. The primary education has been made free and compulsory. Books are supplied to the primary students free of cost.

Al primary level, cash money is allocated to both boys and girls to encourage them to continue studies. The girl students are now reading free of cost up to higher secondary level. HOW TO MAKE BANGLADESH PROSPEROUS

Bangladesh is a developing country with huge prospects. A few good and realistic steps can lead the country towards enormous development and prosperity. There are, however, some challenges in the way of achieving the desired lever of prosperity by the next two decades. If co-ordinated efforts are taken in certain crucial areas of development. Bangladesh is destined to be a prosperous country in the near future.

Since poverty alleviation is a major challenge of the Government of Bangladesh. priority should be given on soclo-economic development of the underprivileged groups. The main emphasis here will be on adoption of integrated and comprehensive approach taking the family as the basic unit for social services programmes with emphasis on family and group development rather than individual development.

More than 50% of the country's GDP comes from the rural sector. Development of this sector Is thus crucial for making Bangladesh prosperous. Bangladesh Rural Development Board (BRDB), the Department of Co-operatives and the Academies for Rural Development at Comilla and Bogra play Important roles in environmental efforts for rural development. Alongside the public sector, the NGOs need to play a key-role In rural development efforts. Organizations like the Grameen Bank and BRAC have earned world-wide acclaim in the field.

The present government has undertaken various measures to expand the opportunities for domestic and overseas employment. Remittances from Bangladeshis working abroad have marked a steep rise during the nineties due to a massive outflow of workers from Bangladesh.

As an export item, manpower exports currently occupy the second position with an annual inflow of over I, billion U.S. Dollars. The Middle Eastern countries along with Malaysia. South Korea and Japan are the principal destination for Bangladeshi workers. Vocational training institutes across the country produce skilled manpower both for domestic and overseas employment. Because of rapid population growth. human resource development and generation of employment opportunities should be attached topmost priority by the government. The Government is trying hard to integrate the womenfolk of the country into the mainstream of the development process.

The National Women’s Development Policy must aim at Improving the lot of the neglected womenfolk of the country, ensure equality of men and women in all spheres of national life including state, society. family. politics, administrative and economic arena.

The youths are potentially the most productive force in Bangladesh. They constitute 36% of the total civilian labour force. The government has taken up various programmes for their socioeconomic uplift. The Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Department of Youth Development are entrusted with the responsibility of providing unified direction and co-ordination to the youth development process.

We will not be able to make Bangladesh a prosperous one overnight. But If we follow the above mentioned strategies. our Bangladesh will be prosperous very soon.

FLOODS IN BANGLADESH

Flood is a natural calamity. It is almost an annual affair in Bangladesh. Bangladesh suffers from flood almost every year.

Flood is mainly caused by heavy showers of rain. Rivers and canals can not carry the rain water to the sea rapidly. So there is a sudden Increase of water in the rivers and canals which overflow their banks and cause flood. Floods also may be caused by in the melting of snow in the mountains. Many of our rivers are silted and cannot contain much water. During the rainy season heavy rainfall and sudden rush of water from the mountains also cause flood. Almost all the rivers of Bangladesh originated in India. India controls the flow of these rivers which very frequently creates flood.

Farakka Barrage in India is now one of the main causes of flood in Bangladesh. Bangladesh has to take an alternative means to control flood. It can be done by building dams and embankments in the low lying areas and by excavating canals to preserve water for the dry season.

Flood visits our country almost every year. The floods that occurred in the years 1954, 1960, 1968, 1970, 1972, 1974, 1987, 1988, 1998, 2007 were very alarming. All these floods caused a huge loss to life and property. The flood of 1988 and 2007 surpassed all the records of the past. Ninety percent of our total villages and towns remained under water for several days.

Flood causes serious devastation. Crops are badly damaged. trees are uprooted. It washes away our village and towns. Streets. roads and even peoples houses go under water. People can not go from one place to another. Sometimes flood causes river erosion for which many people become homeless and shelterless. The sufferings of people and the domestic animals are beyond description. Trade and commerce comes to a stagnant position. After-effects of flood are more serious. Cholera, typhoid. dysentery and diarrhea break out in an epidemic form. There is scarcity of pure drinking water. Many people cite of starvation. The affected areas become muddled with filth and dirt. The road communication is disrupted. This creates an adverse impact on economy.

Flood has some good effects too. The silt caused by flood water makes the land fertile. It washes away filth and dirt from the houses, lands and our surroundings. People are blessed with increased production of food and other crops. because the fertility of land increases.

If we can not check the huge loss that flood causes to our country every year. our all efforts for development will go in vain. So we must find out effective and permanent measures for the prevention of flood.

Load shedding means the disruption of regular supply of electricity In a particular area for a certain period. It may happen frequently or regularly. When generation of electricity is less than the demand, it causes load shedding. If the generation of power Is not ensured according to the demand, load shedding will continue. The modern civilization, no doubt, depends greatly on power or electricity. The developed countries ensure this supply of electricity successfully.

The consumption of power In modem world Is an Index of development. The country which generate and consumes more power is considered as the more developed country. Today Industrial as well as agricultural production greatly depends on power-supply. If the agricultural and Industrial production is hampered for shortage of electric supply, the effort for economic development as a whole is jeopardized. Thus the economic growth is hampered for load shedding.


The normal life of people is disturbed by load shedding. Students have to suffer a lot for load shedding. Their sufferings know no bound when the examination begins. The frequent disruption of power supply causes Immense suffering In the offices and houses. The housewives face troubles due to load shedding. Electronic goods like refrigerators, televisions, computers, etc sometimes go out of order because of frequent load shedding.

In summer, the sufferings of the people beggar description. People suffer from suffocation due to load shedding. The electric fans cannot move to ease the suffocating heat for load shedding.

The air cooler machines cannot function for this load shedding. Our mills and factories cannot run properly because of load shedding and as a result our production decreases. It results In the delay and decrease of the export commodities which In the long run will badly affect our economic growth. The business centres and commercial Institutions also face problem when load shedding becomes acute.

The education and research centres, cannot work properly because of frequent load shedding. The patients In the hospitals have to undergo untold suffering when load shedding occurs. The print media and electronic media cannot finish their daily work properly because of load shedding. In a word, the life of every man and every sector Is paralysed for frequent load shedding.

When certain areas axe plunged into darkness because of load shedding miscreants as well as anti-social elements come out. They take away money and other things from the people. The hyjackers become awfully busy with hijacking. Thus many anti-social activities continue during load shedding. Government should take necessary measures to Increase the generation of power In order to relieve the people of the curse of load shedding.

It makes calculations and controls the machinery automatically. It is a set of four things generally, a monitor which has a screen, a PC, a mouse and a key board.


The main parts of a personal computer are:
a. The input unit
b. The output unit
c. CPU or Central Processing Unit.

The CPU is further formed of three units. There are:
1. Memory Unit
2. Central Command Unit
3. Arithmetic Unit.

The computer has entered into its fourth generation and the improvement is still going on. The IBM-64, the ESDAC etc. are fascinating computers.

As computer can be used in every aspect of life its importance is very great. It is used in all commercial sectors, public institutions, research facilities, space technologies, universities, colleges and schools, Information technology and internet has given has given it a new dimension. People who learn it and become skilled are good professional. They have become the assets of a country. Computer literate people are also in high demand in overseas country. If our country can produce earn high amount of foreign currency. A country can also export hardware and software and thus earn foreign money. The Staple Food of the People of Bangladesh

Rice is the staple food of the people of Bangladesh. It is obtained from the seed of a plant called paddy. Paddy grows well in hot and most climates and in low-lying land where rain water stands. Bangladesh is one of the largest producers of it.

There are four kinds of paddy which grow in our country. They are Aus, Aman, Boro and IRRI. Aus is sown in April and reaped in July or August. Aman is transplanted in between July and August and reaped in December. Boro is transplanted in winter and reaped in spring. Recently, IRRI is widely cultivated throughout the year for its high yield. Of these four kinds Aman is the best in quality.


There are two distinct processes of the cultivation of paddy. One is sowing and the other is transplanting. In the first process the seeds are sown in the fields. But in the second process the seeds are scattered on muddy lands. When they grow up to one or, one and half feet in height, they are transplanted in another field already prepared for the purpose. In both the cases the fields are ploughed, harrowed and matured well.

When the paddy is ripped, the grains are separated from hay. Then by husking paddy we get rice. Rice from paddy may be of two kinds. Atap and Siddha or boiled. When paddy is dried and husked, it is called Atap or unboiled rice. When the paddy is first boiled and then dried and husked it is called boiled rice.

Rice is the main food of the people of Bangladesh. Various kinds of food are prepared from it. It is also used in making various kinds of breads and cakes. Some delicious foods like Polao, Biriani, Khichuri etc are made from fine rice.
No other food crop is really so useful as rice in Bangladesh. The people of Bangladesh cannot go even for a day without it. So, we should take all necessary steps to increase its production to meet the growing needs of the country.

Some Common Flowers of Bangladesh

Bangladesh is a land of varieties of flowers. Nature has adorned her with different kinds of flowers and made her a wonderful dreamland.

The best known flowers of Bangladesh are the rose, the Krishnachura, the Shimul, the Rajanigondha, the Gandharaj, the Bakul, the Jui, the Belli, the Kamini, the Chameli, the Lotus, the Lily, the water lily, the Dalia, the Jasmine, the Tagor, the Champa and the Sheuli.

Of all the flowers the rose is called the queen of flowers. It is superior to all other flowers in colour and smell. The Krishnachura, the palsh, the palash, the Shimul and the Champa are well known flowers of the spring. They look very beautiful but they have no smell.


The Sheuli is the flowers of autumn. It is small in size with bright white petals. It looks very charming. The marigold is a flower of winter. It has various colours, shapes and sizes. It looks very beautiful and charming. There are some flowers such as:- the Rajanigandha, the Gandharaj, the Bakul, the Hasnahena and the Jui that bloom at night and spread their sweet fragrance over a vast area. Besides of these, the Cosmos, the Dalia, the Chameli etc. add to the beauty of our gardens in winter.

There are some other that blooms in marshy lands, beels, canals and ponds. The lotus and the shapla are well known among them. The lotus is famous for its delicate perfume. Shapla is our national flower. It is white and pink in colour. When they are bloomed, the whole marshy land seems to be a wonderland of beauty.

There are also some wild flowers, which grow here and there in the country. They usually grow and fade beyond our notice. But they are beautiful indeed.

The tradition of washing hands before meals is a sign of cleanness.

Unclean surroundings dirty dwelling houses and kitchens, dirty clothes, bedding etc. Create unhealthy atmosphere. Even in our ordinary daily life we see that a man in dirty body and clothes are objects of hatred of others. Dirtiness and diseases go together because dirtiness breeds the germs of diseases.
