Water is an important element of our environment. It is everything to us. But water is getting polluted day by day in varieties ways. Water pollution is any contamination of water with chemicals or other foreign substances that are detrimental to human, plant, or animal health. These pollutants include fertilizers and pesticides from agricultural runoff; sewage and food processing waste; lead, mercury, and other heavy metals; chemical wastes from industrial discharges; and chemical contamination from hazardous waste sites.

Now-a-days, this water pollution can be found in everywhere. Men pollute water by throwing waste into it. Farmers use chemicals and that get mixed with water in rivers, canals and ponds. Mills and factories pollute water by throwing their poisonous chemicals and waste products into rivers and canals. Water vehicles pollute the water of river by dumping oil, food waste and human waste. Unsanitary latrines and unsafe drains standing on the banks of river and canal those are also responsible for water pollution.

Polluted water is the world's biggest health risk, and continues to threaten both quality of life and public health, though, the water pollution is spread almost around the world, it brings a dangerous situation to us. There are many bad effects of water pollution. Polluted water is very harmful for health. By drinking impure water, many people often suffer from many water borne diseases. Polluted water also destroys fish and plants. So, it is high time to minimize water pollution. Public awareness should be raised. Mass media can play a vital role in this regard.
