The country's first eco-friendly e-bus (electric bus) service for school students is likely to be launched this December.

These buses will run in Gulshan, Banani and Baridhara areas of the city; According to Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) authorities, the buses will be air-conditioned.

Initially, the pilot project of this bus service will be started in four English medium schools namely Chittagong Grammar School-Dhaka, Scholastica School, Sir John Wilson School and Bangladesh International Tutorial School.

If the plan is successful, all the schools in the capital will be gradually brought under this scheme.

DNCC has already completed the preliminary work of implementing this initiative. Now the Technical Committee is conducting a survey which will be completed by mid-October.

It is said that the authorities will use all modern technologies including CCTV cameras and tracking systems to ensure the safety of students in e-buses.

DNCC undertakes this project to reduce carbon emissions and reduce pollution in Dhaka. Also according to experts, school bus service will be able to play an effective role in reducing traffic congestion.
